New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of four new semiconductor manufacturing units across India, including a significant project in Andhra Pradesh. The government has allocated a total of Rs 4,594 crore for these initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s electronics and technology sectors.
Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Punjab have been selected as key locations for these semiconductor units. This development is expected to boost the local economies and generate substantial employment opportunities, particularly for the youth. The state government of Andhra Pradesh has already formulated a semiconductor policy offering incentives and infrastructure support, and officials have assured full cooperation in providing necessary facilities such as land, electricity, and water.

Semiconductors are critical components in mobile phones, computers, automobiles, and other electronic devices. India currently relies heavily on imports to meet its semiconductor demands. By expanding domestic manufacturing capacity, the government aims to reduce import dependence and advance its “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative. Earlier, Gujarat and Assam had begun similar projects, and the inclusion of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Punjab will further enhance the nation’s semiconductor ecosystem.
I sincerely express my gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for the Central Cabinet’s approval of the establishment of two semiconductor manufacturing units in Odisha.
