U.S. to Collect Photos, Data of All Entrants and Exits

The Trump administration is moving forward with a new regulation aimed at curbing illegal immigration in the United States. Recently published in the Federal Register, the proposed rule would require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to collect photos and personal data from all individuals entering or leaving the country. Officials argue that this measure will help identify fraudulent travelers and enhance border security. The regulation is scheduled to take effect on December 26.

Despite earlier tightening of immigration rules by the Department of Homeland Security, many individuals continue to exploit loopholes, overstaying visas or entering the country without proper documentation. The administration emphasizes that comprehensive data collection, including photographs, is essential for monitoring movement and preventing unauthorized entries. Initially proposed in 2021, the updated measure now aims to fully leverage technology to detect and restrict illegal immigration.

In a related development, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s increase in H-1B visa fees. Representing 300,000 businesses, the Chamber contends that the fee hike exceeds presidential authority, undermines the visa system established by Congress, and forces companies to hire less-skilled workers. The organization warned that it could lead to layoffs among H-1B employees while negatively impacting investors, clients, and existing staff. At the same time, several U.S. senators are urging the administration to reconsider the fee increase, sending a joint letter to President Trump calling for its reversal.
