Typhoon Yagi causes devastation in China, impacts Vietnam

Beijing: Typhoon Yagi has wreaked havoc in China, with winds exceeding 234 kilometers per hour. The powerful storm has led to significant destruction, including vehicles and people being swept away, fallen trees, and numerous buildings being demolished. Videos of the destruction, including flying debris and damaged structures, are circulating widely on social media.

In Hainan Province, the typhoon triggered landslides in the Wengtian Township, prompting flood warnings for the Nandu and Changhua rivers. In response, authorities have evacuated approximately 570,000 residents to safety in Guangdong as a precautionary measure.

The storm has caused widespread power outages, affecting nearly 800,000 homes. According to Chinese government reports, the typhoon has resulted in two fatalities and 92 injuries, with the death toll potentially rising further.

Typhoon Yagi’s impact has extended to Vietnam, where it struck the northern coast on Saturday morning. The region experienced intense winds reaching 203 kilometers per hour. In Hai Phong Province, a fallen tree caused a fatality, and several areas have reported disruptions in electricity supply.
