Washington: US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently met in Alaska aiming to end the Russia-Ukraine war. While no formal ceasefire agreement was reached, both leaders described the discussions as positive.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, emphasized that a direct peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine would not only ensure a ceasefire but could also bring the war to an end. He called this approach the best way forward.
“The meeting with Putin in Alaska went very well. I also spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, NATO Secretary General, and other European leaders. For the ongoing devastating war between Russia and Ukraine to end, a direct peace agreement between the two countries is essential. This is the right approach, not just a ceasefire,” Trump wrote. He added that Zelensky will visit the Oval Office in Washington, D.C., on Monday, and if that goes as planned, a meeting with Putin could be scheduled, potentially saving millions of lives.
