Washington: The Russia–Ukraine war continues without a breakthrough, despite ongoing US mediation efforts. US President Donald Trump recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and later held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the possibility of a ceasefire remains uncertain.
According to international media reports, Trump has approved the supply of more than 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles to Ukraine to enhance its air force capabilities. European countries are expected to fund the procurement, and the missiles, with a range of 240 to 450 kilometers, are likely to be delivered within six weeks. However, Ukraine will require Pentagon clearance to deploy these weapons against Russian territory.
Reports further suggest that the Pentagon has restricted Ukraine from using US-made long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for strikes inside Russia. Nevertheless, Washington has continued to extend military support. The US State Department recently confirmed a $322 million aid package to Ukraine, including advanced missile systems—$150 million for armored vehicle maintenance and $172 million for surface-to-air missile systems. Trump’s latest decision is viewed as part of Washington’s efforts to strengthen Kyiv’s defense while diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain stalled.
