A significant development has emerged in efforts to end the war in Ukraine, with Russia, Ukraine, and the United States preparing for their first-ever trilateral meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The talks, facilitated by the UAE, are scheduled over two days, with delegations from all three countries participating. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the discussions, calling them crucial and urging Russia to be ready for compromise, emphasizing the urgent need to end the conflict.
Ahead of the trilateral talks, U.S. President Donald Trump held a bilateral meeting with President Zelensky at Davos. Trump described the meeting as productive and highlighted the massive human toll of the war, noting that tens of thousands have died, including over 30,000 in the last month alone, many of them soldiers. He stressed that prolonging the conflict would be a global disgrace and reiterated the need for immediate resolution.

The Davos meeting marks the first time that Russian and Ukrainian representatives will engage in direct discussions on a single platform under U.S. mediation since the start of Russia’s full-scale attacks on Ukraine. The international community is closely observing the talks, given their potential to shape the course of the ongoing war and create momentum for a lasting ceasefire.
The meetings are expected to focus on technical aspects, including reviewing draft agreements and operational mechanisms for a ceasefire. Key agenda points include the immediate cessation of hostilities and post-war security arrangements for Ukraine, including guarantees and support from the United States. Analysts say the outcome could set the foundation for a breakthrough in ending the conflict.
