Chittoor: In a shocking incident reminiscent of Bihar-style train robberies, armed robbers stopped the Chamrajanagar Express (Train No. 16219) near Chittoor railway station around midnight on Wednesday and looted passengers after cutting the train’s power supply. The gang terrified travelers and snatched valuables, including gold chains and mangalsutras from women. The robbery occurred near Siddampalli on the Chittoor-Katpadi railway line shortly after midnight and came to light only later, causing widespread concern.
Victims filed complaints with railway police, who are accused of initially suppressing details of the incident. Eyewitnesses claim that attempts were made to alert the authorities during the robbery, but no immediate response came. Following the revelation, police forces were deployed in large numbers at Chittoor railway station and have launched a full-scale investigation. Authorities are now scanning nearby CCTV footage in an effort to identify and apprehend the culprits.
