Jaipur: A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan as eight individuals drowned in the Banas River in Tonk district during a picnic, sending shockwaves across the region. All the victims were reportedly between 25 and 30 years of age.

According to reports, a group of friends from Jaipur’s Ghat Gate and Hasanpura areas had visited the river for a post-Bakrid outing on Tuesday. While three of them were cooking on the riverbank, panic ensued as several others entered the water and began to drown.

Locals were alerted by those on the shore, and rescue attempts were initiated immediately. Despite efforts, eight people succumbed to drowning. Three others were rescued and admitted to a hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition.

Police reached the site, retrieved the bodies, and launched an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary observations suggest that the group may have underestimated the water depth. It is suspected that in an attempt to save one another, multiple individuals got trapped and drowned.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

Similar drowning incidents have been frequently reported in recent times across Telugu states as well, prompting renewed concerns over water safety during outings.
