Attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh have raised serious concern following the killing of a Hindu worker inside a garment factory in Mymensingh district. The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, marks the third killing of a Hindu individual in the country within the past two weeks.

The shooting took place at around 6:45 pm at the Sultanah Sweaters Limited factory in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh. The victim, Bajendra Biswas (42), was employed as a security guard at the factory. The accused, Noman Mia (29), a co-worker, allegedly opened fire on him while on duty using a government-issued firearm. The bullet struck Biswas in the left thigh, causing heavy bleeding and leading to his death. Police have taken the accused into custody and seized the weapon.

The incident follows a series of violent attacks targeting Hindus in recent weeks. On December 18, 27-year-old Deepu Chandra Das was beaten and set on fire by a mob in the same Bhaluka area over allegations of insulting religion. In another case, Amrit Mondal was killed in Rajbari district, though authorities claimed the incident stemmed from a criminal dispute.

The latest killing has heightened fear among Hindu minorities and drawn international attention. Indian-American lawmaker Ro Khanna condemned the attacks and urged the global community to act against hate-driven violence. The United Nations has also expressed concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, stressing that the interim government bears responsibility for ensuring the protection of all citizens.

While the interim government has assured justice for the victims’ families, critics argue that recurring incidents of violence point to serious gaps in enforcement and minority protection on the ground.
