Kathmandu: Tensions have flared again in Nepal as Gen-Z protesters took to the streets, clashing with supporters of the former ruling party. At least 10 people were reported injured, prompting authorities to impose a curfew in affected areas.
On Wednesday, rallies by Gen-Z demonstrators and KP Sharma Oli supporters in Bara district escalated into violent confrontations. Officials said the curfew will remain in effect until Wednesday night, and Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed security forces to remain on high alert to restore peace.
The protests follow earlier Gen-Z demonstrations that led to the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The youth had mobilized against social media bans, government corruption, and alleged malpractices. Sushila Karki subsequently took charge as interim Prime Minister. Nepal is scheduled to hold general elections in March next year.
