Tensions have intensified in the Dandakaranya region after Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Chhattisgarh. In response, security forces have launched widespread combing operations aimed at eradicating Maoists, extending search operations beyond state borders. Recently, around 2,000 security personnel entered Telangana’s forests via Charla for combing operations, creating a stir due to the large-scale deployment of central paramilitary forces in the region.

Maoists Eyeing Telangana as a Safe Zone

Maoists have reportedly carried out surprise attacks on military camps located along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. Authorities suspect that the insurgents are seeking refuge in Telangana’s forests and conducting reconnaissance on potential safe zones. With Operation Kagar reaching its peak, intelligence suggests that Maoists may be attempting to establish Telangana as a safe haven, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to initiate cross-border operations.

Cross-Border Operations Underway

During his recent visit, Amit Shah advised enhanced coordination between central forces and state police to ensure effective cooperation in addressing Maoist activities. He also emphasized the readiness for cross-border operations if necessary. The Ministry of Home Affairs has provided instructions for state intelligence and the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) to gather sensitive information regarding Maoist activities within Telangana. In response, police sources have indicated that Maoists now operating in Telangana may be planning to carry out destructive activities, which has led to the transfer of ten young IPS officers from the Greyhounds unit to the Dandakaranya zone for enhanced surveillance.

Telangana Police Deny Information on Cross-Border Movements

Despite the heightened security presence, Telangana police assert that operations beyond state borders require prior permission, with cross-border operations being typically conducted only during special operations. In a rare instance, Telangana police have coordinated operations with central forces in Chhattisgarh. On Monday, nearly 2,000 personnel, including Chhattisgarh Bastar fighters, DRG, STF, and female commandos, entered Telangana’s forests. Chhattisgarh police, however, have confirmed that this movement was part of a special operation. Meanwhile, Charla Circle Inspector Raju Verma has stated that he had no information regarding the entry of central forces into Telangana.
