Hyderabad: In a fresh development in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, his daughter, YS Sunitha, has approached the Telangana High Court, seeking a directive to expedite the trial. Vivekananda Reddy, a former minister, was murdered on March 14, 2019. For the past six years, Sunitha has been pursuing legal action, demanding justice for her father’s killers.

Currently under trial in the CBI court, the case has seen limited progress. In her petition, Sunitha requested the Telangana High Court to instruct the CBI court to complete the trial within six months and conduct hearings on a daily basis. The petition names the CBI as a respondent along with all accused in the case.

A special bench of the Telangana High Court took up the petition for hearing. Sunitha’s legal counsel argued that despite six years since the murder and nearly four years of trial, there has been no significant progress. It was noted that the CBI has already filed two charge sheets and that the trial has been ongoing in the CBI court for the past 15 months.

After hearing the arguments, the special bench permitted the issuance of notices to the CBI and all accused. The Telangana High Court has adjourned the case for four weeks.
