The Telangana High Court has issued a significant ruling regarding the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar, Hyderabad. The court has granted permission for the immersion, despite recent opposition. Advocate Venu Madhav had previously filed a petition seeking to halt the immersion and requested that Hydra be included as a respondent, citing previous court orders against such activities.
On Tuesday, the court addressed the petition but rejected the inclusion of Hydra as a respondent. It agreed with the petitioner’s arguments, allowing the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar. However, the petitioner was unable to provide sufficient evidence for contempt of court. The court emphasized that the 2021 order still stands and questioned the relevance of including Hydra now, given its absence at the time of previous rulings. It supported the authorities’ actions and allowed POP idols to be immersed in temporary ponds. The bench also noted that the petitioner could file a writ petition for further special directions. Meanwhile, as the court proceedings were underway, police set up flexes and iron barriers around Hussain Sagar to prevent Ganesh immersion.
