Hyderabad: The Telangana state cabinet on Monday approved the establishment of microbreweries across the state, aiming to boost excise revenue. Under the proposal, mini-breweries will be permitted every 5 km in urban areas and every 30 km in towns. The government is also preparing to issue notifications for new liquor shop licenses shortly.
In a significant political decision, the cabinet resolved to implement 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in upcoming local body elections. A resolution on this has been passed in the Assembly and sent to the Centre, while an ordinance awaits the Governor’s approval. With no decision yet from the Centre, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his ministers plan to stage a protest in Delhi on August 5 and meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Ministers to seek support. The cabinet also decided that local body elections will only be conducted after the reservation issue is settled.
