Patna: With the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for Thursday and campaigning set to end on Monday, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has made a major election promise. He announced that if the Mahagathbandhan coalition comes to power, a new scheme named “Mai Bahin Maan Yojana” will be launched to provide financial assistance to women across the state.

Yadav said that under the scheme, every woman in Bihar would receive Rs 30,000 as a one-time grant starting January 14. The announcement comes shortly after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government credited Rs 10,000 each into the accounts of 7.5 million women as part of a Navratri gift.

Last week, the opposition alliance released its election manifesto, in which Yadav pledged monthly financial support of Rs 2,500 to women and Rs 30,000 annually for the next five years. He reiterated that the first installment of Rs 30,000 would be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on January 14.

In addition, he promised to pay farmers a bonus of Rs 300 per quintal for paddy and Rs400 per quintal for wheat, along with restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government employees. Yadav also assured that police, health, and education department employees would be posted within 70 kilometers of their home districts.

Significantly, he made a bold assurance that every family in Bihar would receive a government job if his coalition comes to power. The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in three phases on November 6 and 11, with the counting of votes set for November 14.
