Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu: Two police officers from Thiruvannamalai East Police Station have been arrested for allegedly raping a young woman from Andhra Pradesh, prompting widespread outrage over police misconduct. The accused officers, identified as Suresh Raj and Sundar, reportedly targeted the victim while she was traveling with her sister for a religious visit to Arunachalam.
According to reports, the sisters boarded a goods vehicle carrying tomatoes, and upon reaching Anthal Bypass Road at night, the officers stopped the vehicle under suspicion. The officers allegedly forced the women off the vehicle, took one sister into a nearby bush, and sexually assaulted her while ignoring the other sister’s pleas. The victim was later abandoned by the roadside. She was found the following morning around 4 AM by local residents, who rushed her to Thiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital via 108 ambulance.
Superintendent of Police Sudhakar and Deputy Superintendent Satish visited the hospital to record the victim’s statement and inspect the crime scene. The case is currently under investigation, with over ten police personnel, including five sub-inspectors, deployed to assist. The involvement of law enforcement officers in such a crime has drawn significant attention and condemnation from the public.
