Swiggy Increases Platform Fees Amid Festive Season Surge

Hyderabad: Swiggy has increased its platform fee per food delivery order from Rs. 12 to Rs. 14, citing a rise in orders during the festive season. This marks a Rs. 2 increase, and over the past two years, the fee has risen by a total of Rs. 12.

The company began charging platform fees in 2023 at Rs. 2 per order and has gradually increased it to the current rate. In comparison, rival Zomato has kept its platform fee stable at around Rs. 10.

Since late 2024, platform and handling fees in the food delivery and quick commerce sectors have been steadily rising. Currently, many companies charge between Rs. 9 and Rs. 15 per order, representing 1–3% of the average order value. Fees may also vary depending on the customer’s location.

Experts note that while the recent fee increase may have minimal impact on customers, it significantly boosts Swiggy’s revenue. Even an additional Rs. 5 per order can generate substantial income due to the platform’s large order volume. Companies that previously focused on attracting customers through heavy spending are now prioritizing profit growth via fee hikes.

However, analysts warn that higher platform fees could pose a risk for Swiggy, as customers may prefer rival platforms like Zomato, which charges lower fees.
