Kathmandu: Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has announced that her government will take strict action against those involved in violence during the recent Generation Z protests that rocked Nepal. In her maiden address after assuming office, Karki vowed to bring all perpetrators of destruction and unrest to justice, stating they would face severe legal consequences. The protests left 72 people dead and around 1,368 injured, according to official reports.
Karki said the government would provide compensation to the families of those killed and cover medical expenses for the injured. She declared the deceased as “martyrs” and announced compensation of 1 million Nepali rupees for each bereaved family. She also noted that the protests had caused extensive damage to government buildings and private properties, describing the violence as appearing to be part of a “planned conspiracy.” She assured that those responsible would be identified, investigated, and prosecuted, and promised government support to rebuild damaged private properties.
