The Supreme Court has granted bail to senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao in a case related to controversial remarks made during a TV debate. Issuing key directions, the apex court clarified that Kommineni had no connection with the comments made by analyst VVR Krishnamraju, who allegedly referred to Amaravati as a “capital of prostitutes” during a discussion aired on Sakshi channel.
Criticizing the police for arresting a 70-year-old man, the court ordered his immediate release. The case was registered by the Tulluru police in Guntur district after a complaint was filed against Kommineni, Krishnamraju, and the Sakshi TV team. While Kommineni was earlier remanded to 14 days judicial custody by the Mangalagiri court, the Supreme Court’s intervention has now provided relief, highlighting that the journalist was not responsible for the analyst’s remarks.
