The Supreme Court has issued a significant ruling on the enhancement of Backward Class (BC) reservations in Telangana’s local body elections, directing that the matter be adjudicated by the High Court. During proceedings, the apex court questioned the petitioner’s decision to approach it while the case remains pending before the High Court.
Counsel for the petitioner explained that the move was prompted by the High Court’s refusal to grant a stay on the reservation increase. In response, the Supreme Court queried whether parties should seek its intervention in every instance where a stay is denied by the High Court.
Rejecting the plea for a stay, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition, thereby allowing the increase in BC reservations to remain in effect for the upcoming local polls.
