New Delhi: A horrifying road accident occurred in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area in the early hours of Wednesday (July 9), when a speeding Audi car lost control and ran over five members of a family sleeping on a footpath. The victims, daily wage labourers from Rajasthan, sustained serious injuries, with an eight-year-old girl and another family member reported to be in critical condition.
The incident took place between 1:30 AM and 1:45 AM near Shiva Camp close to the Munirka flyover. According to police, Utsav Shekhar, a 40-year-old property dealer from Dwarka, was driving the car at high speed when it veered onto the pavement, striking the sleeping individuals—Ladhi (40), her daughter Bimla (8), husband Sabami alias Chirma (45), Ram Chander (45), and his wife Narayani (35). After hitting the family, the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck before coming to a halt.

Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing the crash and alerted authorities. All five injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital by police and emergency services. Initial medical reports confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Police have arrested Shekhar and registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing grievous injuries. Further investigation is underway.
