Hyderabad: Speculation is mounting in Andhra Pradesh political circles over the possible entry of Y.S. Rajareddy, son of AP Congress president Y.S. Sharmila, into active politics. Rajareddy has been frequently accompanying his mother on political tours, and his recent interaction with farmers at the Kurnool onion market has been seen as a clear sign of his political ambitions.
Despite divisions within the YSR family, analysts believe Rajareddy is poised to carry forward the legacy of his grandfather, former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. An alumnus of Oakridge International School in Hyderabad, he pursued higher studies in the United States, completing a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Dallas and a Master of Science in Applied Economics and Predictive Analytics. In 2024, he married Priya Atluri, granddaughter of Chutneys founder Prasad Atluri, in a grand ceremony in Jodhpur.
Political observers suggest Rajareddy may contest the next Assembly elections, though his constituency is yet to be determined. With the YSR family traditionally commanding strong support in Kadapa district, his entry could add a new dimension to Andhra Pradesh politics. Analysts also note that if Rajareddy directly challenges his uncle, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSRCP could face additional hurdles at a time when the TDP and Jana Sena are already mounting stiff opposition.
