Renowned playback singer Kalpana reportedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad. She was found unconscious and was immediately shifted to a private hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
According to reports, Kalpana, who has rendered several superhit Telugu songs, had not opened her doors for the past two days. Concerned neighbors alerted the police, who forcibly entered the house and found her in an unconscious state. The exact reasons behind her suicide attempt remain unclear.

Kalpana, known for her work as a singer, dubbing artist, and actress, has collaborated with eminent musicians such as A.R. Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, and Chitra. In a past interview, she revealed that she had contemplated suicide after her divorce in 2010 due to financial struggles and lack of work opportunities. She credited singer Chitra for motivating her to overcome personal challenges.
Kalpana has been living alone since her separation from her husband, Prasad, who resides in Chennai. Upon being informed, Prasad arrived in Hyderabad this afternoon. Police have reportedly questioned him regarding the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that loneliness and mental health issues may have contributed to her suicide attempt.
