Kyiv: Despite ongoing peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, hostilities continue to escalate on the ground. On Friday, Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault on Kyiv, deploying 539 drones and 11 missiles, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force.
The Ukrainian government confirmed that the Polish diplomatic mission in Kyiv sustained damage during the attack. However, no casualties were reported. Footage showing civilians fleeing to shelters amid the strikes has gone viral on social media, underscoring the continued threat to civilian life.
The fresh wave of attacks comes just hours after former US President Donald Trump reportedly held extended discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on the Ukraine conflict and related issues. The renewed offensive within hours of the talks has drawn international attention.
Ukraine’s government stated that the attacks targeted eight regions across the country. At least 40 residential apartment buildings were destroyed. Additionally, significant damage was reported to railway infrastructure and educational institutions. The national railway authority confirmed that multiple train services were rerouted due to damage to tracks and signaling systems.
