Tallinn/Warsaw/Bucharest: Russia has intensified provocations over NATO countries’ airspace, raising regional tensions. On Saturday, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets, capable of carrying Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, entered Estonian airspace near the capital Tallinn, circling for nearly 12 minutes before being intercepted by Italian F-35 jets and forced to retreat. This marks the third such violation in Estonia this month and the fourth this year, according to Estonian authorities. NATO promptly responded to the incursions, highlighting the alliance’s capacity to counter Russian recklessness.

In addition to Estonia, Russian drones reportedly crossed into Polish and Romanian airspace. In Poland, several drones targeted the logistics hub of Rzeszów, critical for Ukraine’s war efforts, with many intercepted by Polish forces with NATO support.

Romanian authorities have also faced repeated violations. European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas condemned Russia’s actions as “highly dangerous provocations” and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening the defense of member states. NATO officials warned that increasing Russian incursions along borders are escalating political and economic pressures in the region, underscoring Moscow’s aggressive stance.
