Hyderabad: Actress and filmmaker Renu Desai, former wife of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, has expressed her displeasure over what she described as the media’s excessive interest in her second marriage, overshadowing more meaningful issues she recently discussed.
Speaking during a podcast appearance, Desai stated that she addressed several important topics including women’s safety, economic development, tax policies, and climate change. However, she noted that public and media attention disproportionately focused on her comments about possibly remarrying.
In a follow-up Instagram post, she wrote, “I now realise how much interest the media has in my second marriage. Despite speaking for over an hour on topics such as religion, relationships, and the impact of social media, the only takeaway for many was my marriage. Please divert your attention from this 44-year-old woman’s personal life.”
Desai clarified that she is not currently planning a wedding and that she intends to wait until her daughter Aadya turns 18 before making any decision. “I have mentioned feeling the need for a life partner. But this is a personal matter, and I will take that step only when the time feels right,” she said.

She urged journalists and audiences to focus on more impactful issues. “Please don’t use your education, knowledge, and journalistic skills to speculate on a woman’s second marriage. It does not affect society or law in any way,” she added.
Reiterating that marriage at 44 is completely normal, she said, “I will marry someone I like — it’s a private and family matter. I don’t understand why this is being sensationalised.”
Desai also raised concerns about declining cultural awareness, pointing out that many children today are not being taught basic spiritual chants or traditional values. “Parents are failing to pass on our traditions. Even the Gayatri Mantra is unfamiliar to many youngsters,” she observed.
