Actress Rashmika Mandanna has sparked controversy after stating that she considers Hyderabad her home, leading to growing demands for her ban in the Kannada film industry. The issue gained traction during the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival, where her absence, along with other film celebrities, drew criticism from political leaders.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed disappointment over the low turnout of industry figures at the festival, which commenced on March 1. He emphasized the state government’s support for the Kannada film industry, including subsidies for theaters and film productions, and warned against neglecting its roots. “We know how to tighten the screws where necessary,” he remarked, criticizing the industry’s perceived indifference.

Congress MLA Ravi Ganiga also condemned Rashmika’s absence, reminding that she launched her career with the Kannada film Kirik Party. He alleged that multiple invitations were sent to her, yet she declined to attend. “She now claims Hyderabad as her home. Could she not spare even an hour for Kannada? Those who disrespect the language must be held accountable,” he stated.
In response, Kannada fans have taken to social media, trending #BanRashmika and demanding action against the actress for allegedly disregarding the industry that gave her initial success.
