The recent assembly by-elections held across seven states in India witnessed a significant outcome, with the opposition INDIA alliance clinching victory in 10 out of the 13 contested seats. The BJP, on the other hand, managed to secure only two seats, while an independent candidate emerged victorious in one constituency.
By-elections were conducted on July 10 for four seats in West Bengal, three in Himachal Pradesh, two in Uttarakhand, and one each in Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh. Currently, the INDIA alliance holds power in four of these states, with the NDA governing in three others.
Reacting to the results, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his satisfaction over the victory, highlighting it as a clear sweep for the INDIA alliance in the assembly by-elections. He remarked that the results indicate a diminishing fear of the BJP across the nation, attributing the victory to the people’s defense of the Constitution and democracy. Rahul Gandhi credited the underprivileged and poor populations for standing with India to safeguard their rights, extending gratitude to the electorate for their support.
