New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament on Tuesday witnessed intense exchanges as the opposition demanded a detailed discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Despite earlier clarifications by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, both Houses faced disruptions with renewed debates on the issue.
In the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the central government for lacking political determination in responding to terrorism. He described the Pahalgam attack as “inhuman,” stating that tourists were brutally killed in front of their families.
Expressing support for the armed forces, Gandhi said, “I salute the Indian Army’s strength. To defeat terrorism, soldiers must be given complete freedom of action. Indira Gandhi showed courage during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, resulting in Pakistan’s surrender. This government, however, tied the hands of our soldiers during Operation Sindoor and abruptly halted military action, effectively surrendering to Pakistan within 30 minutes of the ceasefire proposal.”
Gandhi further alleged that former US President Donald Trump repeatedly claimed responsibility for stopping the operation, while Prime Minister Modi remained silent. He criticized India’s foreign policy under External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, citing Pakistan Army Chief Asif Munir’s role in orchestrating the Pahalgam attack and the lack of condemnation when Trump met Munir. Gandhi also warned that Pakistan and China were jointly targeting India with shared satellite intelligence, which the government ignored.
Responding to the accusations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that out of 193 UN member states, only three condemned Operation Sindoor, and reiterated that there was no foreign intervention in India’s ceasefire decision.
