War-like tensions have flared again in West Asia, with Iran declaring it is once more closing the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global trade. Iran also launched a series of attacks on vessels moving through the sea route, escalating fears across the region.
Iran specifically targeted the Gulf nations of Qatar and Oman, with reports suggesting the attacks were aimed at damaging their economic foundations. Following these attacks, Qatar took a key decision, ordering commercial vessel operators to temporarily halt all maritime activity within its waters. Commercial ships, cruise vessels and local fishing boats were restricted to ports until further government orders, with Qatar citing public safety and vessel protection as reasons for the move.

In a major escalation, Iran launched ballistic missiles targeting Qatar’s capital, Doha. Qatar’s air defense system detected the missiles in time and successfully intercepted several of them mid-air before they could cause major damage.
However, debris from the intercepted missiles fell on residential areas, leaving some civilians severely injured. Qatar said its military forces remain fully prepared to effectively counter any further crisis situations arising from Iran’s actions.
