Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that there is no necessity for Russia to deploy nuclear weapons in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, expressing hope that such a situation will never arise. Speaking in a recent interview with Russian state media, Putin emphasized that Russia has the power and resources to bring an end to the war, which began in 2022, on terms favorable to Russia.
“We do not need to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Russia has the strength and resources to conclude the war we initiated in 2022 in the manner we desire,” Putin declared.
Furthermore, in November 2024, Putin signed documents relating to the revival of Russia’s nuclear doctrine, affirming that Russia is capable of utilizing the world’s largest nuclear arsenal. However, he reiterated that nuclear weapons are not required in the conflict with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is also making diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing war. Trump has advocated for a peaceful end to the conflict through negotiations. Putin, for his part, has expressed Russia’s readiness to engage in discussions aimed at achieving peace.
As Russia prepares to commemorate Victory Day on May 9, marking the 80th anniversary of World War II’s conclusion, Ukrainian President Zelensky has warned that he cannot guarantee the safety of foreign dignitaries attending the event. In light of this, Russia announced a three-day ceasefire proposal during the Victory Day celebrations, but Zelensky rejected the offer on Saturday, highlighting continued tensions in the region.
