A private bus from Chittoor district met with a major accident in Alluri Sitarama Raju district when it lost control and plunged into a gorge near Tulasipaka on the Chinturu–Maredumilli ghat road. The bus, en route from Bhadrachalam to Annavaram after a temple visit, was carrying 35 passengers and two drivers. Initial reports indicate that up to 15 people have died, while several others sustained injuries. Rescue operations at the site are ongoing, with local authorities and police coordinating relief efforts.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the accident occurred due to overspeeding by the driver. Most passengers were senior citizens traveling for a religious pilgrimage. The bus, also registered in Chittoor district, fell into the gorge near Raju Gari Mettu, causing severe disruption to traffic on the ghat road. Families at the scene were reportedly in distress, as authorities worked to evacuate the injured and provide immediate aid.
The injured have been shifted to Chintur and Bhadrachalam area hospitals for medical treatment. Officials confirmed that all passengers belonged to Chittoor district.
