Reports indicate that the Governor’s recommendation to impose President’s Rule was based on the ongoing ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kukis communities, which have persisted for the past two years. The situation has further escalated, leading the Governor to recommend federal intervention.
As a precautionary measure, the Governor has also ordered the cancellation of the upcoming Assembly sessions scheduled for Monday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command is reportedly in discussions regarding the appointment of the next Chief Minister, but no decision has been reached.
The imposition of President’s Rule has been seen as a necessary step to stabilize the region and address the political crisis. This decision has become a subject of intense political debate and discussion across the state.
