On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Gir Sanctuary in Gujarat’s Junagadh district on Monday. During his visit, he inaugurated Vantara, a dedicated center for wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation. He also undertook a safari to observe Asiatic lions and captured photographs of them.
The Prime Minister visited a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital equipped with MRI and CT scan facilities, ICUs, and specialized veterinary departments, including cardiology, nephrology, endoscopy, wildlife anesthesia, dentistry, and internal medicine.

During his tour, Modi interacted with rare wildlife species, including white lion cubs, Asiatic lion cubs, cheetah cubs, and caracal cubs, feeding them milk. He also observed cheetahs, rhinoceroses, giraffes, chimpanzees, orangutans, hippopotamuses, elephants, snakes, and crocodiles.

Additionally, he visited the world’s largest elephant hospital and engaged with veterinarians and caretakers. The Vantara facility houses over 2,000 species and shelters more than 1.5 lakh rescued and endangered animals.
