Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹830 crore during his visit to West Bengal. Addressing a public meeting in Singur, he launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging corruption, nepotism and appeasement politics under its rule.
The Prime Minister accused the state government of obstructing the implementation of Central welfare schemes and depriving the people of their benefits. He said growing public dissatisfaction with the TMC government was driving people towards the BJP, and asserted that the party would bring an end to what he termed “maha jungle raj” in the state in the 2026 Assembly elections, drawing a comparison with Bihar.

Modi alleged that the TMC was supporting infiltrators for political gains, warning that such actions posed a threat to national security. He said West Bengal needed a government that prioritises national development over personal interests, and assured that infiltration along the borders would be stopped if the BJP came to power. He also promised to take action against illegal migrants.
Expressing concern over the safety of women, the Prime Minister said incidents of sexual harassment in educational institutions and public places were frequently being reported in the state. He stressed the need for stronger security for women and children, and said a “double-engine government” was essential to ensure safety, justice and development for the people of West Bengal.
