Former BRS Party MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy has become the center of a fresh controversy in Telangana after his Moinabad farmhouse was raided by police on Saturday night over alleged drug use. During the raid, Rohith Reddy and several others, including Andhra Pradesh TDP MP Putta Mahesh Yadav, were apprehended. Preliminary drug tests reportedly came back positive for all those detained, drawing widespread public and political attention.
The Moinabad farmhouse has a history of controversy. In October 2022, the property gained nationwide attention when it emerged that BJP allegedly attempted to buy four BRS MLAs during election campaigns, offering ₹100 crore, as revealed in videos that caused statewide political shockwaves. At that time, Rohith Reddy had positioned himself as a whistleblower, reporting the incident to authorities and emerging as a hero in political circles.
Over the years, Rohith Reddy has been a polarizing figure. Even before becoming an MLA, he organized events under his “Young Leaders” group with private security, licensed weapons issued to retired army personnel, and faced legal action for alleged misuse of firearms. He was also involved in cases related to unauthorized construction and large convoy disturbances in Tandur and Hyderabad, maintaining a reputation for courting controversy wherever he operated.
The recent drug case adds a new layer of challenges for the BRS Party, which is already recovering from setbacks in both assembly and parliamentary elections. Political analysts suggest the incident could affect public perception of the party, especially given Rohith Reddy’s previous role as a whistleblower who had once enhanced the party’s image by exposing corruption attempts.
Party insiders now speculate on the potential disciplinary measures that BRS Party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao might initiate. Questions remain about whether the party will take action against its former MLA or treat the case as an individual matter. The situation continues to be a hot topic in Telangana, attracting attention from both media and opposition parties, highlighting ongoing concerns about political accountability and public perception.
