In light of the recent controversy surrounding the alleged adulteration of Tirumala laddu, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has commenced a penance ritual. As part of this observance, he conducted a purification ceremony at the Kanaka Durga Temple on Indrakeeladri Hill in Vijayawada. Following the ceremony, Pawan Kalyan personally cleaned the temple steps, applying turmeric and placing vermilion offerings. This ritual was conducted with the chanting of Vedic mantras by scholars present at the site.
After the purification ceremony, Pawan Kalyan offered his respects to Goddess Durga. Notable attendees included MPs Keshineni Srinivasanath, Balashouri, and MLA Hariprasad.
Pawan Kalyan plans to conclude his penance by walking from Tirupati to Tirumala via the Alipiri steps on October 1. He intends to break his fast after receiving darshan of Lord Venkateswara on the morning of October 2.
Addressing the governance of the YSR Congress Party, Pawan Kalyan criticized the dismissive attitude towards those raising concerns about temple management. He asserted that individuals responsible for the temple’s integrity should address any issues of adulteration. Expressing his frustration, Pawan Kalyan questioned, “What is your responsibility when you know adulteration has occurred?”
He further emphasized his deep concern regarding the adulteration incident, highlighting that YSR Congress leaders continue to speak irresponsibly about the matter. Pawan Kalyan expressed disappointment with comments made by party leader Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy regarding sensitive issues, stressing that traditional values should not be undermined. “If mistakes occur, they should be acknowledged; otherwise, disavow any connection. However, such statements should not be made,” he concluded.
