London: Team India suffered a major blow during the third Test against England at Lord’s after wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant sustained a finger injury. The incident occurred in the 34th over of England’s innings when a wide delivery from Jasprit Bumrah deflected awkwardly, striking Pant’s left index finger. He was forced to leave the field immediately, with Dhruv Jurel taking over wicketkeeping duties. Jurel continued behind the stumps on Day 2 as well.

According to ICC regulations, substitute players are not permitted to bat or bowl unless they are replacing a player ruled out due to concussion under the like-for-like replacement rule. Since Pant’s injury is not head-related, Jurel cannot bat in his place. If Pant is declared unfit to bat, India will be restricted to just 10 batters in the innings. Pant’s potential absence could significantly impact the team, given his current form. Further medical assessment will determine his availability for the remainder of the match.
