Pakistan-China Secret Defence Deal Talks Revealed in New Report

Reports have emerged detailing a proposed secret strategic arrangement between Pakistan and China, highlighting discussions around advanced nuclear and naval cooperation. The information, published by US-based independent media outlet Drop Site News, suggests that Pakistan sought Chinese assistance to enhance its “second-strike capability,” which refers to the ability to respond with a nuclear counterattack even after absorbing an initial strike.

According to the report, Pakistan proposed acquiring nuclear-capable submarine technology from China in exchange for granting the Chinese Navy long-term access to Gwadar Port. The port, located along the Arabian Sea, was reportedly offered as a potential permanent military base for China as part of the broader strategic understanding under discussion.

The talks are said to have taken place in 2024 under the leadership of Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir. During these high-level military engagements, Pakistan allegedly sought support to develop a full nuclear triad capability, enabling it to deploy nuclear weapons from land, air, and sea platforms, significantly expanding its strategic deterrence.

However, the report indicates that China did not accept Pakistan’s conditions, viewing the proposal as strategically and politically complex. Despite longstanding defense cooperation between the two countries, Beijing reportedly did not proceed with the request, causing the discussions to stall without any formal agreement being reached.

The report also highlights Pakistan’s historical reliance on Chinese assistance in its nuclear and defense programs since the 1970s, including missile and enrichment technologies. It further notes Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its submarine-based deterrence through agreements such as the Hangor-class submarine deal. Meanwhile, analysts point to Islamabad’s continued balancing act between Beijing and Washington, as its foreign policy under successive military leaderships attempts to maintain ties with both global powers.
