Varanasi: Renowned spiritual guru and Padma Shri awardee Baba Shivanand passed away on Saturday night in Varanasi due to age-related health complications. He was 128 years old. Baba Shivanand had been undergoing treatment at BHU Hospital since April 30, following deteriorating health.
His mortal remains have been placed at his residence in Kabir Nagar Colony for public viewing. Disciples have confirmed that his last rites will be conducted later this evening.

Born on August 8, 1896, in Sylhet district (now in Bangladesh), Baba Shivanand lost both his parents at the age of six. He was subsequently taken under the tutelage of Omkarnand, from whom he learned spiritual teachings and practices.
Baba Shivanand was widely recognized for his contributions to yoga and spirituality. In recognition of his lifelong efforts, he was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2022.
His death marks the end of an influential chapter in India’s spiritual community.
