Srinagar: An encounter between terrorists and security forces erupted on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, resulting in the death of one suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba militant. Army officials confirmed the development on Saturday morning.
Based on intelligence inputs about terrorist movement in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a joint search operation. Terrorists opened fire on security personnel, triggering a gunfight. Authorities believe that two to three more terrorists may still be hiding in the region.

Security forces have cordoned off the entire forest and intensified combing operations to prevent any escape. Despite operational challenges at night, forces are maintaining a tight perimeter.
Following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, anti-terror operations have been stepped up under ‘Operation Mahadev.’ The Kulgam encounter is part of these measures aimed at eliminating militant threats, bolstering border security, and restoring confidence among local residents. The operation remains ongoing, with further updates awaited.
