New Delhi: Nitin Nabin (45) was sworn in as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. He formally assumed charge at the BJP headquarters after being unanimously elected in the party election held on Monday. The announcement of his election was made earlier in the day, followed by the swearing-in ceremony.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior Union ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, state party presidents and senior leaders of the party, underlining the importance of the leadership transition.
Born in 1980 in Ranchi, Nitin Nabin hails from a family with a strong political background. His father, Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha, served as a BJP MLA. Nitin entered active politics in 2006 following his father’s death and won the by-election the same year. He subsequently won Assembly elections in 2010, 2015 and 2020, and most recently secured his fifth consecutive term as an MLA from Bihar in the 2025 Assembly elections.

With an RSS background, Nitin Nabin rose steadily through the party ranks and has held ministerial responsibilities across various departments. He has earned a reputation as an undefeated leader and gained the party high command’s confidence after successfully serving as the BJP’s in-charge for Chhattisgarh in 2023, a year in which the party won the Assembly elections in the state.
Nitin Nabin is the first leader from undivided Bihar to reach the post of BJP national president. With Assembly elections scheduled later this year in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam, attention is now focused on how he will steer the party’s strategy and coordination in these key states.
