Hyderabad: The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) expert committee has submitted its final report on the Kaleshwaram project to the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, making significant recommendations regarding its structural stability. The report suggests that the seventh block of the Medigadda Barrage must be demolished, citing serious safety concerns.

Key Findings of the Report
The NDSA report raises concerns over the stability of the barrage, stating that repairs may not ensure its durability. It also questions the barrage’s ability to withstand future heavy floods. As a result, the expert committee has recommended the reconstruction of the affected section.

A significant cavity was detected beneath the seventh block, which had previously been filled using grouting. The report notes that the riverbed has narrowed sharply at the barrage location, increasing the risk of damage during high inflows. Additionally, it highlights severe negligence in monitoring and maintenance since the project’s completion.

The final report will be shared with the Telangana government within two weeks. Meanwhile, the Kaleshwaram Judicial Commission is also awaiting the findings, which may influence its course of action.

High Court Relief for KCR and Harish Rao
Amid ongoing investigations, a local advocate had filed a petition in the Bhupalpally Court, alleging irregularities in the construction of the Medigadda Barrage and naming former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former Minister Harish Rao as responsible. Seeking to quash the notices issued against them, both leaders moved the High Court.

After hearing the case, the High Court suspended the notices issued by the Bhupalpally Court and directed the issuance of notices to the petitioner.
