The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will conduct a nationwide trial of the “Cell Broadcast Alert” system for mobile users on Saturday. The exercise will be carried out across all states, Union Territories, and major capital cities to test the efficiency of the emergency alert mechanism.
However, border regions and states where elections are currently underway have been excluded from the trial due to security considerations. The objective of the exercise is to assess how quickly and effectively emergency alerts can be disseminated to the public during disasters and other critical situations.
During the test, mobile users across the country will receive a loud sound or vibration-based emergency notification on their phones. Authorities have clarified that the alert is only a demonstration message, and citizens are advised not to panic upon receiving it.
Officials stated that the Cell Broadcast Alert system is designed to send real-time warnings to millions of people within seconds during natural disasters and emergencies. The nationwide trial is aimed at strengthening India’s early warning infrastructure and ensuring preparedness for large-scale crisis communication.
