In a landmark result, the NDA alliance secured a commanding victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections, winning 50 out of 101 divisions. The LDF managed 29 seats while the UDF won 19. This ends a 45-year Left stronghold in the city, marking a major political shift and a significant setback for Left parties in Kerala.

PM Modi Hails the Victory
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the win as a “key turn” in Kerala politics and praised BJP workers for their efforts. He expressed pride in the party cadre, stating that their dedication was instrumental in achieving this historic victory.

UDF Shows Strength in Local Bodies
While the NDA celebrated its win, the Congress-led UDF demonstrated strong performance across Kerala in local body elections. KPCC President Sunny Joseph noted that the results indicate public dissatisfaction with the LDF government. The UDF reportedly holds an edge over the LDF in several Gram Panchayats, Block Panchayats, Municipalities, and Corporations across the state.

Controversies and New Leadership
Congress leader K.S. Venugopal criticized the LDF, pointing to the Ayyappa temple gold smelting issue as a factor in voter backlash and highlighting UDF victories in traditional Left strongholds. Allegations also surfaced of BJP’s tactics in the same case. Amid the political tussle, former IPS officer Srilekha was elected the new Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, while BJP MP Shashi Tharoor extended congratulations to winning party leaders.
