Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Manipur, marking his first trip to the state since the ethnic clashes that erupted in 2023 between the Meitei and tribal communities. The violence, which stemmed from demands to grant reservation benefits to the Meitei community and opposing protests by tribal groups, left nearly 250 people dead. Modi met with families of the victims during his visit. This tour is part of his broader itinerary covering Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, Tripura, and Meghalaya from today until September 15.
