Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan Passes Away at 80

Nagaland: Governor La. Ganesan, 80, passed away on Friday while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, Raj Bhavan officials confirmed. On August 8, Ganesan suffered a severe fall at his residence, resulting in a serious head injury. He was admitted to the ICU and succumbed to his injuries at 6:23 p.m. on Friday.

Born on July 16, 1945, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Ganesan developed an early interest in RSS ideology, with his family also having connections to the organization. He became an RSS pracharak in 1970, serving in Madurai and other regions for 20 years. He joined the BJP in 1991, serving as the organizational secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit and later as state president from 2006 to 2009, contributing to strengthening the party in Tamil Nadu.

At the national level, Ganesan served in various capacities and was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2016. He was appointed Governor of Manipur in August 2021, holding office until February 2023, and also served as the Governor of West Bengal in 2022. From February 2023, he had been serving as the Governor of Nagaland.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, remembering Ganesan as a dedicated public servant and a true nationalist who played a key role in the BJP’s growth in Tamil Nadu.
