Mumbai Indians stormed into the IPL 2025 playoffs with a dominant 45-run victory over Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. This win made MI the fourth team to qualify for the knockouts after Gujarat, Bengaluru, and Punjab.
Batting first, Mumbai posted a formidable total of 180/5 in 20 overs, thanks to a scintillating unbeaten 73 by Suryakumar Yadav. The stylish right-hander brought up his half-century in just 35 balls and finished strong with 7 boundaries and 4 sixes in his 43-ball stay. His fireworks in the final overs, alongside Naman Dhir (24* off 8), powered MI to a defendable score, with 48 runs coming in the last two overs.

Earlier contributions came from R Rickelton (25), Will Jacks (21), and Tilak Varma (27). Meanwhile, MI skipper Rohit Sharma (5) and Hardik Pandya (3) failed to make an impact yet again. For Delhi, Mukesh Kumar picked up 2 wickets, while Chameera, Mustafizur Rahman, and Kuldeep Yadav claimed one apiece.
In reply, Delhi Capitals faltered in their chase from the outset. Their top-order collapsed, with the top batter falling for just 11. Sameer Rizvi (39), Vipraj Nigam (20), and Ashutosh Sharma (18) showed some resistance, but the Mumbai bowling attack proved too strong.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner were the stars with the ball, each claiming three wickets. Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks, and Karn Sharma chipped in with a wicket each, as Delhi were restricted well short of the target.
With this result, Mumbai not only moved into the top four but also sealed the final playoff spot, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the league stage.
