Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday criticised Congress-governed states for what he termed as betrayal of public trust and poor governance. Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister stated that protests in Himachal Pradesh have stalled development and accused the Karnataka government of driving inflation.

“In Karnataka, prices of essentials—from electricity to milk—are on the rise. The Congress government has made the state number one in corruption,” he alleged. Modi further said the BJP is committed to protecting democracy and the Constitution, and is working with a vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

Separately, the Prime Minister’s comments come at a time when a controversy has erupted over land at the University of Hyderabad (HCU) in Gachibowli. The Telangana government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, reportedly moved to sell 400 acres of university land, sparking protests from students and opposition parties. The issue has drawn nationwide attention and has reached the Supreme Court.

Following directions from the apex court, a central empowered committee visited the HCU campus to assess the disputed lands. Prime Minister Modi’s remarks on the matter have now assumed political significance amid ongoing tensions.
