Tensions in West Asia are escalating after a missile strike near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran. The incident was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which said it was the fourth such attack in recent days. A missile fragment reportedly hit the site, killing one staff member and damaging a nearby building.
The IAEA stated that the strike did not result in any radiation leak at the facility. The Bushehr plant remains Iran’s only operational nuclear power station, making the attack particularly sensitive. The targeting of such a critical installation has raised serious concerns amid the ongoing conflict in the region.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi expressed concern over the developments, warning that key equipment may have been housed in the damaged structures. He urged all sides to avoid targeting areas around nuclear facilities and to exercise restraint to prevent any potential nuclear risk. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have alleged possible involvement of the United States and Israel, further intensifying tensions in the region.
